Who's excited for back to school?? My little is starting preschool and I've got all the feels- sad, excited, you name I've probably felt it. I decided a good way to deal with it is to sew my feelings! So I bring you, the Back to School Accessory blog! A round-up of some of the perfect back to school patterns to gear up your littles with their favorite Rockerbye prints.
The first and most obvious sew that all the kiddos need is their very own backpack! It's your lucky day! The amazing Danielle of Homesewn Couture is going to be hosting a Sew-A-Long in our group for this backpack starting 8/14! Even better it's a free pattern available here!! So head on over to the SAL group and join the fun for a chance to win prizes and get any help you need tackling this bag
Next up- the most important time according to my kids who never stop eating- a lunch box! Give your kid the coolest lunch box in class by whipping up one of these cute patterns! You'll find quite a few lunch box options but I loved the variety of these two from Peekaboo Pattern Shop. First the Star Student Lunch box. I love this Zombie version made by Tessa of Bustles and Bloomers
and if you prefer a taller style with no zipper you can check out the Grab-N-Go!
With lunch comes snacks- why not be a little green sew some reusable snack packs that are not only cool but good for the planet! Check out this free tutorial from Made For Mermaids.
Now on to the perfect scrap buster and ever so important pencil pouch!! You can find a ton of patterns out there but I used this quick free tutorial and it came together so fast and cute! Perfect for pencils and any other goodies your kiddo wants to store. For my next ones, I will probably add some interfacing to give it a bit more shape. She also doesn't mention it but don't forget to finish your woven edges!
If you are wanting a pencil pouch to go in a binder I found this tutorial that looked pretty easy and fun! If you want to spice things up a little bit you can Check out this adorable heart zip pouch from Patterns for Pirates- might not fit pencils well but definitely other fun school supplies.
This next item- totally a must especially for the littles- I'm talking about an Art Smock to keep all your precious RBD clothes safe of course! If nothing else it's a must for craft time at home as well. Alexis of Cotton and Grain Sewing Co. made this awesome one from last year's art round and I love how it turned out! She used this free tutorial.
and the last two- not sure how much they are needed for school but they are still super fun! This perfect little free crayon roll up pattern from Made for Mermaids
or you can do the whole shebang with an art folio like I made last year! Perfect to keep all the art supplies together for school, road trips, home storage, and more! I used Modkids Travel Art Folio Pattern.
Well, there you have it! I'm sure I'm forgetting something kiddos use for back to school accessories but this should at least keep you busy for a bit plus clothes of course! Your kids will be RBD all day every day! ;) Don't forget to grab some woven fabric as it works best for most of these projects! We have some available in retail as well as the new pre-order starting 8/15. I can't wait to see all your sews so share them in the group! Also, don't forget to join the SAL or you'll regret it! Thanks for reading <3
Happy Sewing and Rocking,
Michelle
